Australian Defence Force members at Robertson Barracks have been treated to a newly refurbished and revitalised Canteen at Shout VC. The Army & Air Force Canteen Service (AAFCANS) as part of their strategic innovation, investment and improvement program have just completed refurbishments to Shout VC Canteen, Café Central Canteen and Grocery Store to the tune of $325,000.
This was just one of the 12 facility improvement projects undertaken by AAFCANS in the past 12 months.
The renovations included updating the equipment, enlarging the internal footprint and modernising the service areas and general environment. The interior benefited from an architecturally inspired makeover.
The interior of the new Canteen will feature a small gallery of canvas prints and digital images on glass which dipict both historic AIF Canteen images dating back to wartime deploments in 1915 and a dedicated collection of images and information on Captain Shout - Victoria Cross winner WW1. Captain Shout (Shout VC’s namesake) was postumously awarded the Victoria Cross after having died at sea from his wounds. A special service at the Australian War Memorial in 2013 saw the last post dedicated to the strapping young carpenter from Sydney who gave his life for his mates and his country and an inpregnatble legacy in the trenches of Lone Pine Gallipoli.
“Improving the internal environment and streamlinging the service flow for our customers was important. This ugrade project was part of our strategic plan and has been made possible by the everyday support given to us by Defence members and their patronage. Its gratifying being able to make a real difference to the social envirnoment and welfare for our people. AAFCANS exists solely for the welfare of Defence Members and has done so since 1915.”says Stewart McGrow Managing Director of AAFCANS.
As a not-for-proit organisation any profits made by AAFCANS are channelled into future investment, innovation and improvement to facilities and services for Defence members! Over the past 4 years AAFCANS has invested over $5.1M to capital improvements of its on-base facilities across a number of Defence base.
